The Ark presents
the world premiere of
The Making of Mollie
by Anna Carey
23 Feb - 16 Mar 2024
The Ark, cultural centre for children, presents a bold new adaption for children aged 8+ by author Anna Carey of her first historical novel, The Making of Mollie, about a young teen who gets involved with Dublin’s suffragette movement in 1912.
The Ark commissions, produces and presents work for, by and about children. This new Ark commission will preview from Friday 23 February, officially opening on Sunday 25 February.
The stellar creative team is led by Director Sarah Baxter, Set and Costume Designer Deirdre Dwyer, Lighting Designer Suzie Cummins and Composer and Sound Designer Tom Lane.
Director of The Ark Aideen Howard said, “At The Ark we love bringing great stories to life. This is a story of a special young girl who is curious about the world and what is happening in society and decides to get involved herself. We are delighted to have commissioned Anna to adapt her much loved book for The Ark stage and are so looking forward to seeing audiences experiencing it in our intimate theatre space this Spring.”
This charming and witty new play invites you to step into a very different time and join Mollie as she begins her journey to find her place in the world.
The run will include relaxed performances (8 & 9 March) and an ISL interpreted performance too (3 March).
The Making of Mollie
In 1912 Dublin, 14-year-old Mollie Carberry’s life is pretty boring. That is, until she discovers that her older sister Phyllis is a secret suffragette! Mollie starts to realise just how unfair the world can be - and she wants to do something about it. When Mollie and her friend Nora get involved in the movement, they must face an important question: just how far should a girl go for her beliefs?
